Poking Out The Spying EyeSpyware is one of the hottest buzz words out there. There is a sea of spyware scan and removal tools available at the hands of internet-ready user. These tools make it easy to remove that tricky, malicious software known as spyware. Removal can be equally as tricky without the use of a proper tool.
Whodunit?
Many PC users do not have the faintest clue that they even have spyware. When pop-ups start becoming troublesome, they simply install a pop-up blocker and then proceed to use their credit card at an online site. This is a very unsafe practice. There are several indications that you might have spyware (Or adware-“ad-delivery software”- which, for these purposes, they can be considered one in the same. Most tools detect of remove them both.)
There’s Nothing Wrong With A Peeping TomSpyware and adware are usually interchangeable terms. They both gather statistics about your computer usage (such as the websites you visit, the programs you own, the amount of time you spend on the computer) and send this data to a third party site and/or deliver you ads based on this information. This is an invasion of privacy and can be hazardous to your confidential data (such as credit card numbers and other banking information).
Fight The ManGet your computer back to its safe, secure environment by wiping out those nasty pets. Be wary of anti-spyware software that is free of charge, as some contain spyware themselves. However, there are a few FREE anti-spyware programs such as Lavasoft AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy (which has a paid subscription feature in which definitions are updated constantly), and Webroot Spy Sweeper (which has a free trial period). These programs should be run on a very regular basis (for heavy internet users, this should be at least once per week). It is difficult to avoid getting spyware but some general rules of thumb are just safe general practice. Do not download/install programs you are unsure about. This is the most important rule. However, some spyware is unavoidable because it comes in the form of cookies or packaged with a decent shareware program. Invest a bit of time in a spyware scanner and rest easily. |
